Automated System for Crack Detection Using Infrared Thermographic Testing
نویسندگان
چکیده
The objective of this study was the development of the automated system for crack detection on square steel bars used in the automotive industry for axle and shaft construction. The automated system for thermographic crack detection uses brief pulsed eddy currents to heat steel components under inspection. Cracks, if present, will disturb the current flow and so generate changes in the temperature profile in the crack area. These changes of temperature are visualized using an infrared camera. The image acquired by the infrared camera is evaluated through an image processing system. The advantages afforded by the system are its inspection times, its excellent flaw detection sensitivity and its ability to detect hidden, subsurface cracks. The automated system consists of four IR cameras (each side of steel bar is evaluated at a time), coil, high frequency generator, and control place with computers. The system is a part of the inspection line where the subsurface and surface cracks are searched. If the crack is present, the cracked place is automatically marked. The components without cracks are then deposited apart from defective blocks. The system is fully automated and its ability is to evaluate four meter blocks within 20 seconds. This is the real reason for using this system in real industrial applications.

Flying Laser Spot Thermography for the Fast Detection of Surface Breaking Cracks
We report on recent developments in the detection of surface breaking cracks using flying laser spot thermography. Application of an infrared camera for mapping the thermal radiation after excitation with a diode laser equipped with an optical scanner allows us to examine a surface containing cracks in an entirely non-destructive, contactless and fast way, without even moving the camera. We dev...
متن کاملAutomatic road crack detection and classification using image processing techniques, machine learning and integrated models in urban areas: A novel image binarization technique
The quality of the road pavement has always been one of the major concerns for governments around the world. Cracks in the asphalt are one of the most common road tensions that generally threaten the safety of roads and highways. In recent years, automated inspection methods such as image and video processing have been considered due to the high cost and error of manual metho...
متن کاملIR Thermography for the Nondestructive Evaluation of the Protective Coating Coverage on Steel Substrates
The infrared thermography (thermal imaging) is considered a flexible, non-contact, and non-destructive tool used to evaluate wide variety of coating attributes (e.g. appearance and protective attributes). This paper addresses the application of thermographic systems in evaluating the protective-coating coverage over steel substrates in two different painting industries. First case is the inspec...
متن کاملAutomatic Detection and Localization of Surface Cracks in Continuously Cast Hot Steel Slabs Using Digital Image Analysis Techniques
Quality inspection is an indispensable part of modern industrial manufacturing. Steel as a major industry requires constant surveillance and supervision through its various stages of production. Continuous casting is a critical step in the steel manufacturing process in which molten steel is solidified into a semi-finished product called slab. Once the slab is released from the casting unit, th...
